In the beginning of November, I tried to sign up a Pinterest account using my work email but the only option I had was to request an invite. Luckily, my sister already had an account and told me she could send invites. Within minutes I received an email sent to my personal account from Pinterest informing me that she had invited me to join and a link to sign up.
If you have not received an invite from a Facebook friend, you can go to the Pinterest.com to request one. The original invite request I had submitted was sent to work email a few days later. I assume this process, by delay immediate registration, is put in place to control and handle the crazy amount of traffic it is receiving at such a fast pace.
Creating a Pinterest account is simple. You must provide your Facebook or Twitter login in order to join. Their reasons behind linking 1 of the 2 accounts are to reduce spam and most importantly to find people you know. Then create a user name, provide an email/create a password and your add interests.
Now you are ready to find your friends and start pinning!
